RESTAURANTS

Both pubs down the road have great meals and you can get anything from a buffet to a sit down meal.

There is a pizza van opposite Shopi most afternoons from around 5ish to 7pm.

There are wonderful restaurants in Domme, our favourite is L'Esplanada, but there are so many that we love.  I recommend you order the individual meals as they are better value and cooked fresh. The set menu's seem to all come with chips and can be quite boring.  As always the locals  know best so if in doubt, order what they order.

There are so many wonderful restaurants in Sarlat but again our personal favourite is L'Entr'Acte - Bar - Bradderie Sarlat - you can cook your own steak in this restaurant. Their phone number is 05 53 59 02 75.

On the way to Beynac (on the bend) there is a local French restaurant called L'Auberge des Chateau Les Magnanas 24220 Vezac. You need to break the rule here and order from the set menus as this restaurant caters for the locals and the set menu's are to die for.  Bookings are essential.

SIGHTS

With so much to see and do around the area you will have to decide on what you really want to see.  There are a couple of great guide books in the bookshelf.  Both Domme and Sarlat have a great tourist office.

Rocomador is one of the classic sights of northern Quercy (around 45kms from Cenac). For hundreds of years the town has been a centre for Christian pilgrims from across France and Europe.

Jardins de Marqueyssac has the most amazing landscaped gardens, and is a must see.  At dusk they line the paths with thousands of candles.  Take a picnic and sit with the locals to enjoy this stunning place.

Beynac Village and Castle -This dramatic fortress occupies a sheer cliff top, a steep trail links it to the centre of this lovely village has some nice restaurants.

Beynac

Chateau de Castlnaud - has everything you expect from a cliff top castle, wall up to 2m thick, crossbows, cannons, a superb panorama of the Dordogne and fine views of the fortified chateaux on the nearby hilltops.

La roque de Gageac - for the more energetic, it is a lovely walk to the riverside town of La Roque-Gageac, pressed into the cliffs that tower above it, it was once an inland port.  From here you can take a boat trip on a traditional gabare (boat) or rent a canoe.  As if all this was not enough, close by there are many castles and chateaux that are well worth a visit.  You will be spoilt for choice!!!!

La Roque de Gageac

Sarlat - an architectural masterpiece of a town with gabled roofs and mullioned windows, it posses the highest concentration of medieval, Renaissance and 17th century facades in France.  The town is also famous for its market, selling all kinds of local specialties.  It is an absolute treat.

Sarlat

Vezere Valley - the valley is famed for its spectacular Stone Age cave paintings and houses built into the cliff side.  Les Eyzies is the closest place to you to see some of these amazing historical sites.  Most of the prehistoric sites are situated between Le Bugue and Montignac.
